High School Grove Avenue Christian School offers a strong college preparatory program. Students can choose between either a college preparatory diploma or a general diploma. The average class size in the high school is 10 students or less, which enables teachers to continue to focus on each student individually. The Dress and Honor Code are vital parts of the academic environment at Grove. Students have six classes which include Math, Science, Social Studies, English/Literature, Foreign Language and Physical Education. In addition, they have one elective and must earn a Bible credit for each year of attendance. Bob Jones, a strong academic and biblically based curriculum is the main curriculum used along with A Beka and other resources. Chapel and community service continue to be integral parts of the experience at Grove. Chapel offers students the opportunity to worship through music and hear Christian messages from a variety of speakers. It also allows the students to participate through drama, music and other personal talents to worship the Lord. Each year the high school students elect to do a particular community service project. Last year they organized a school project to make sleeping bags for homeless people. They also participate in school-wide projects such as Operation Shoebox. Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities and field trips throughout the school year. Students enjoy such activities as attending theater performances at the University of Richmond and visiting the Smithsonian and Holocaust Museums in Washington D.C. Students continue to grow and develop through athletics, art and music. Grove offers Boy's and Girl's Varsity basketball, co-ed soccer, girl's volleyball and cheerleading. Beginning in Spring 2006, co-ed softball will be offered. Students also enjoy participating in Chorus and other activities. Students are evaluated at the end of the year by the Stanford Achievement Tests. Our students average test score is 25% higher than the national average. Grove graduates typically score a minimum of six percent higher on the college board SAT's at the national, state and local levels which translates to a minimum of 20 points higher in each section. Grove students are well prepared for higher education, typically attending the school of their choice. For more information on where our graduates have attended college, see the “Our Graduates” section on our website.
